The service uses its own internet connection to make the actual connection to Facebook and therefore enables you to connect and bypass the firewall rules set out by your server administrator. Most of these services are not free and many of them may already be known to your school or office. It may be a case of trial and error, finding out which facebook proxy service is able to achieve your desired aim of connecting to Facebook while blocked by a firewall.
